We strongly advise that you read the instruction manual that comes with your Flightcell Pro or
Flightcell 2Go! and familiarise yourself with its operation BEFORE you fly with it for the first
time. An extensively updated and improved manual is available for download from the
Downloads
page of this website.
Due to the many types of different cellphones, satellite phones, radios and other devices you may
be trying to connect to your Flightcell product, it is possible that you may experience some
difficulties. The following section covers some of the more commonly experienced problems. If you
cannot find help here, please try the FAQ page for your particular Flightcell model, or contact us
with your query. We are more than happy to assist you in getting the most from your Flightcell
product.
Troubleshooting:
I have plugged in my phone but there is a delay in the interface recognising the
connection:
Some phones take longer to recognise that the adaptor plug has been plugged in. (This is the same
if you had attached your earpiece.) If your phone shows a headset or the picture of a vehicle then
it has recognised that you are plugged in and the device will work.
My GSM or Nextel phone reception is sometimes disconnecting:
Connecting a Flightcell product to your phone will have no impact on your cell phone reception.
Once your phone is connected to Flightcell you might be able to position your phone near a window
to improve reception. Unfortunately GSM phones only operate from one land based cell at a time, so
as you are flying and you pass from one to another the reception may drop out. This is not a
problem with CDMA Phones.
I am getting some interference from my GSM Phone.
Unfortunately, GSM phones create EMI (electo-magnetic interference) when an amplifier is nearby.
Flightcell Pro and Flightcell 2 Go! use Active Sound Quality components to reduce this interference
by 90%. However many Intercom systems have amplifiers that are also affected by EMI from your GSM
phone. This intereference cannot be reduced by your Flightcell product.
The volume into my headset is not high enough:
With Flightcell 2Go! you will need to alter the output volume on your telephone. With Flightcell
Pro you can adjust the output volume on your phone as well as adjusting Flightcell Pro's volume to
your headset. You will need to see the instruction manual for advice on adjusting volume settings
using the on-screen menu.
I can transmit voice through my Flightcell but cannot receive audio.
Many phones attach to their hands-free earpiece through a 3 point 2.5mm plug. However, some phones
use a 4 point plug which looks very similar. Check to see that your phone takes the 3 point 2.5mm
plug. If not, the adaptor for a 4 point plug is available from Flightcell International free of
charge.
There is also the possibility of a connection problem arising either through a faulty adaptor OR a
damaged connection port at the base of the phone. This can also cause the problem of having sound
in one ear only.
I am only getting sound in one ear:
See above. There is also the possibility of the 2.5mm plug not being able to fully insert due to a
raised edge around the socket on your phone. Removal of the raised edge OR buying a smaller sleeve
around the plug may fix this rare problem. You can also use a craft knife to trim down the plastic
casing around the plug which is preventing it from fully entering the socket and making a full
connection.
